News Roundup – November 11, 2009: Aronofsky, Trannys, Cross dressers!
There’s not much in the way of news, but here’s what’s on offer over the past couple of days.
Aronofsky finds a way to convince straight blokes to see a ballet flick
If you want proof that Darren Aronofsky is talented, you’ve got it. By casting the jiblet-tingling trio of Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Winona Ryder in his new thriller ‘Black Swan’ he’s managed to convince me to see a movie about ballet. That’s undeniable talent right there. Now he just needs a quick re-write to include a gratuitous three-way scene and we’re set.
He’s black? Check. He’s a comedian? Check. He hasn’t had a hit in a while? Check. Get that man into a dress asap!
What is it with black comedians and cross dressing? Jaime Foxx and Martin Lawrence are teaming up to subject the world to “Sheneneh and Wanda”, an alleged comedy based on some sort of BET Awards skit they did a few years ago. The story centers around two “modern independant women” who rob banks. Ugh. Hasn’t anyone learnt from “Big Momma’s House” or “White Chicks”?
It’s official. I will never see this movie.
As if one wasn’t bad enough, BOTH Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman have been cast in “The Danish Girl”, the new movie from Thomas Alfredson, director of “Let the Right One In”. It’s about the real life relationship between the first post-op transsexual and it’s wife. Kidman will play the tranny and Paltrow will play it’s wife. While the story doesn’t particularly interest me, I like LTROI a lot and was interested in Alfredson’s next flick. Not anymore.
There’s other news out there, it’s just equally uninspiring. The Black Cat is the Spiderman 4 villain (shit idea- she’s basically a lame Catwoman rip off) and I heard somewhere that the mighty Dolph has been cast as Conan.
Not exactly earth shattering, admittedly.
I haven’t seen those. I basically just looked at Variety. In subsequent posts I’ll have to do a more thorough search for news.
It’s just bleak at the moment.
*edit*
With one exception: Oldboy remake takes a bullet. That’s great news.
That is good news. Even if I haven’t seen Oldboy.
Have you not seen Oldboy?
It’s a bit overrated and I prefer the other two of the trilogy to it. I recommend all 3 highly though.
I just have to say, though, that Will Smith and Spielberg are so fundamentally wrong for Oldboy that it is splendid news.
Yeah, i’ve been meaning to see it. I’ve had a copy of it for about 2 years.
It’s not light viewing, that’s for sure.
I like Oldboy better then the other two.
They cast Mila Kunis and Princess Almadia as Ballarinas? Aren’t ballarinas generally tall and willowy.
Dolph was cast as Conan? are they going for an older Conanstory like King Conan, Phoenix on the Sword or the like? Personally I would like to se Wolves across the Boarder or the Treasure Tranicos somehow incorporated in the movie.
Uh hold the presses-They are ballerinas *who make out* in an “intense lesbian scene*. Who says Arrono’s lost it? tell me-Who? Stand up and make yourselves counted-because you sirs will be *eating your words* about a year from now!
Ladies and gentleman, i rest my case:

They’re doing a King Conan finally? what, 25 years after the last installment?! What the-Sure why not cast Dolph?
Regarding Dolph-the guys 52-saw him on G4 goofing about with kevin perriria-he was funny-really cool guy-also he looked to still be in great shape-Command performance came out on DVD tuesday-looks like an awesome bit of 1980s cheese-directed by the Dolph himself–*spoiler*
he plays freakin’ drums-he’s like seagal in “Under siege”-except he’s a kickass drummer-This still makes me laugh.
