What did you just say?
- ThereWolf on The Trollenberg Terror (1958)
- Terry Fleming on The Trollenberg Terror (1958)
Is this the way to the WolfCave?
I don’t know. Is it?
I’m officially bamboozled. Time for vodka.
You’re way ahead of me. I can’t even get my avatar to show up except on my homepage. I am so very tech-inept!
Unless someone is on my blog page, I’m the invisible Mavra. Toad is in SO much danger now! 😉
Barfy, I have no idea. I can see you though. Neither of us are indented with little arrows and a brown font. We’re steadfastly black of font. Is that a bad thing?
I am waving my arms around.
Thought it might be something like that. And bearing in mind I haven’t the vaguest idea how to post anything I’m gonna be ‘in the black’ for quite some time.
Posting virgins isn’t nearly as difficult as stuffing them into the envelopes (and they steadfastly refuse to lick the stamps). I’d like to sign up for the “How To Use WordPress For Dummies” newsletter, please and thank you.
Any “aha!” moments I have rarely involve computer hardware and usually involve me launching into ‘The Sun Always Shines On TV’ pop song.
So, I would very much like a passing along of the instructions, please. Cheers.
I did try copy & pasting into ‘the box’ thing but the pictures didn’t transfer so I gave up. I understand a ‘page break’ has to go in somewhere as well, and some kind of ‘tag’. Worrying.
No problem, Barfy, no apology necessary. Not sure if I’ll get on this weekend anyway cos I’m gonna be messing around with me internet connection.
‘Course you can, Barfy, knock yourself out.
Cheers.
I think it worked!
But how come I can’t see it on this page?
Well, it’s all down to you, Barfy, and your exhaustive & detailed guide to posting. I owe you one!
The review has been on MyMavra, you might’ve seen it before. The next couple will be old ‘uns as well.
Red arrow? What red arrow?
Oh, the red arrows! They were my favourite part!
Just in case one doesn’t understand the clearly explained text, there’s a ruddy great red arrow mocking you. Cheers!
ThereWolf
You sure do take a mighty fine picture!
Are you related to Marty Feldman?
Y’know, Morbius, I get that a lot. Marty’s a handsome chap – much like meself!
Unfortunately, dashing good looks is all we have in common.
Oh, that’s interesting… See, from my POV I’m still slugging back a bottle, nothing’s changed at all. But you appear to be seeing the picture I thought hadn’t loaded. Any ideas why my PC won’t display the new picture?
In other news, if I log on to Moonwolves at work, you’re no longer wearing a slinky red number but are back to the 22/10 (?) thingy!
And, yes, Viva La Botox!
Thanks, Barfy. Done and done. I can now see our Lord and Saviour, Jim Caviezel.
Anyhoo, why would that be “too personal”? I feel unaccountably guilty now…
Wolf! You were looking for piano music? I have been listening to Ferrante and Teicher’s Denizens of the Deep obsessively. It’s not super-serious Philip Glass-style. But it is friggin’ awesome. Recorded in 1950, but lost to the world until 2001 or so. Some avant-garde technique, but also very poppy in its twisted, aquatic-themed way. The Loch Ness Monster Stomp is the BEST.
Can be downloaded here: http://tinyurl.com/y8urk3j
Sadly, they are both recently deceased, if that alleviates any guilty type feelings on the d/l tip.
DAmn. By praising Loch Ness Monster Stomp so much, I feel like I’ve given the rest of the album short shrift. “Treacherous Octopi & Devilfish”, “Plunging Sharks & Diving Swordfish” and “At Sea Watching Voracious Piranha” are also wonderful.
Sorry, I am gushing. Look at it this way, after opening up the can o’ worms w/ Philip Glass, you might as well catch some fish, right?
All right, Blitz! Good job I checked this page, I haven’t been in here for awhile. Hmmm, maybe I’d better tick the “Notify me…” box.
Is ‘Denizens Of The Deep’ only available on download? Is there anywhere I can listen to some of it first, I can’t see that as an option on the link?
I’m looking for repetition in the piano melody… it’s hard to describe exactly what I’m after. As a guide, listen to the ‘live’ version of ‘Like Spinning Plates’ (Radiohead). Or – and I love this – ‘Samskeyti’ (Sigur Ros). It’s to help me write a story, I need a bit of inspiration and this is what my head is asking for.
I sound like an idiot. Sorry. Thanks for taking an interest though. Much appreciated.
I’m a bit of a music nerd, and I get this overwhelming impulse to share. (Though “share” should probably be read as “subject others to my musical tastes”)
I put up a few things, shoot me an email and I’ll give you the info so’s you can listen. There are a few things that aren’t piano, but are repetitive in the glass sort of style. I only put up a couple of things from F&T, but the entire album is only about 25 minutes, and there’s definitely a unifying motif goin’ on (aside from the unifying motif of AWESOME).
So you write stories? Do you have any up to read?
There were a couple up at MyMavra.com – ‘Woden’s Den’ and ‘Home For Christmas’. Don’t know if they’re still up, haven’t been over there in quite awhile.
At the risk of sounding like a dumbshit, how do I find your e-mail on here?!
Hmmmmm. I have no idea. I’m just now trying out actually logging in. Might even attempt an avatar!
That’s ok. it’s menstrual_blitz (yahoo)
I’ll have a look at mavra’s old spot, see what I can find.
Blitz.
Did my e-mail get through all right?
Yup, replied to it yesterday. If you didn’t get it, maybe check your spam folder? There was a link in there, so it might have gotten bumped.
My email account’s kind of finicky that way. Maybe your is too?
Bah! Didn’t get it. And there was only spam in my spam…
Hmmm. Let’s try again.
Just re-sent it.
Nothing so far. Spam is empty. Curiouser and curiouser.
I just sent it not two minutes ago. Give it a few and then I’ll try something else.
Bingo.
Thanks very much, Blitz.
My pleasure, Wolf. I’m guessing it was the other one that got through? I think your account has got it in for yahoo!
Yeh, t’other one. Aye, we darnt like thems Yarhoos ’round ‘ere. Nay. Ruddy menaces the are…
Denizens – Probably too “humorous” for what I’m doing – though ‘Loch Ness’ got me thinking about a short story I’d put on the back burner!
Glass Cage is the closest to what I’m looking for. Nice. Cage solo was maybe too quiet & introspective but I’ll give him another listen. Lurie was quite a way off what I had in mind!
Heh. The one from Yahoo has turned up now!
Those unreliable Yahoos…..They just don’t have the horse-power to get the job done! A little on the slow side…
Glad you liked Glass Cage. And here’s to hoping something nice will bubble up on the back burner!
Aaaaaand… a second one from Yahoo. Farce.
Oh yeah, I read your stories over at MM. Quite enjoyed them. If you have any others you’ve deemed fit for public consumption, by all means, send ’em my way.
Oh shit, was I being rude? Apologies!
Barfy – I didn’t want to repeat all of my stuff from MyMavra over here. I was gonna leave ’em over there, for now at least. Why, do you think I should move them over? I wanted to stick to new stuff from now on…
Blitz – Thanks for reading them. I don’t do many short stories. I feel really constricted by the word count! And then I start reading Joe Hill’s ’20th Century Ghosts’ and I get demoralised…
Rude? How and to whom?
Rude probably wasn’t the right word. Uncouth? As if I were being ‘greedy’ for stories or something, or putting you on the spot, or otherwise violating some sort of social compact. Looking back, it probably doesn’t make much sense. But at the time, I felt the impulse and went with it. Now I have an impulse to apologize for the apology. Aaaaaahhhh! Sinking into apologetic abyss!
Alright, time to stop embarrassing myself. Carry on.
Blitz…Rude? Oh hell no!!! If anyone is being rude it’s me jumping into a conversation I wasn’t a part of. Not that a little rudeness would ever stop me.
I was just being my lazy old self, not wanting to have to go and search them out over at the mavra site. Once you get to know me you’ll find out I always try to get other people to do all the work for me. 🙂 I’m good like that.
Wolf, sure, keep them and post them here. Why not! Save as drafts and post whenever content is needed or someone asks to read them.
Oh Barfy, I am pretty much a crazy person. I never have any idea if I’m saying what I mean. Plus I’m relatively new to y’all’s crew, so I don’t want to step on anybody’s toes! Because I have been known to inadvertently stomp. Innocently, of course, but still….
Ha! 🙂
My pleasure.
Typically, I don’t recall when I recommended The Dambusters to you but of course if anyone ever asks me ‘Is the Dambusters any good – should I watch it?’ – I say Yes! And Yes!
Lucas probably DID use some of the ‘busters for the rough print before his FX were finished…
In that case…
‘In Which We Serve’.
Have a go at that, if you haven’t already…
In which we serve has that great scene w/ David Niven and the rest on deck(?) I think? towards the end? very good movie.
Not David Niven, he wasn’t in this. I’m fairly certain you mean the scene with Noel Coward, when he’s thanking the crew near the end.
Check Niven out in ‘A Matter Of Life And Death’ – though not really a war film.
That’s it! Noel Coward. D’oh! It’s a moving scene.
It is – and I wanna watch the film now! Unfortunately, it’s 1:30 in the morning and I doubt me eyes will last the running time…
Right David did ‘The Way Ahead’ back then too.
I’ve not seen ‘The Way Ahead’. Cheers for the head’s up, I’ll keep a look out for that one.
Ha ha that’s great. Have never seen this one.
