They Came From Beyond Space (1967)

scifi-series04

Director: Freddie Francis

Starring: Robert Hutton, Jennifer Jayne, Bernard Kay

Thought I’d seen this – but apparently not (apart from the Michael Gough bit near the end – seemed familiar, that). Amicus Productions decided to dabble in Quatermass territory but was it worth the bother? May contain tights-wearing alien henchmen and spoilers…

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1956)

Unless you live 107 light-years away on the planet Fattybollox you’ve probably at least heard of this ‘un but I’m guessing you’ve all seen it and there’s no need for me to tell you this movie is ace. A Droid Premiere: Battleship (2012)

The knives are out and no one’s been sharpening more furiously than me. ‘Battleship’ has got to be the nadir of Hollywood creativity. It’s a film, based on an antiquated 80’s board game. Hasbro, the company responsible for Transformers and GI Joe, are unflinchingly determined to exploit every possible product they have in their catalogue. But a board game? Transformers and GI Joe I can fully understand, because they began life as a line of toys, and by proxy have somewhat identifiable transferable characteristics and personality for a feature film. But what characteristics and personality does a board game have, when the whole game is just players taking turns yelling out grid coordinates in an attempt to hit the others plastic ship? And would the target audience know what ‘Battleship’ is? Does anyone even play board games any more?

BATTLE: LOS ANGELES: ROGER EBERT IS A JAWLESS FUCK WHO SHOULD OFF HIMSELF ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER PUSSY REVIEWER THAT HAS A POLITICAL AX TO GRIND BECAUSE THEY ARE LOSERS AND COWARDS AND NEVER AMOUNTED TO ANYTHING IN LIFE AND KNOW IT.

Before I begin let me take a moment to thank the Air Force at Pope Airfield at Ft. Bragg for arranging a screening of this for us since we were stuck at the airport with a minimal combat load. Our rucks held no civies or service uniforms so we couldn’t go anywhere. Also thank you for the nice dinner.

This really isn’t a review so much as massive brutal rebuttal to all the horseshit flying around about this movie and it is being done entirely stream of consciousness on my part. I am only correcting spelling and not all that much. Grammar is going out the window and I am probably going to jump around a lot of subjects as the occur too me. Also Barfy has not edited this since I think it should just be from me to the OpenOffice software I use to the readers so please don’t think she had anything to do with this rambling mess it’s all on me. If you want a good even hand non bombastic check out Bart’s review at his site, here’s the link. http://popcultureninja.com/2011/03/11/battle-los-angeles-movie-review/
