Burt Gummer’s Rec Room

A gathering place for paranoid survivalists and those who worship at the Church of Chang

August 2015: Dryer than a bone, and hotter than the surface of the sun- yup, it’s summertime in Perfection and El Blanco is on the prowl.

Disclaimer: This is the part of the Church that is the most no holds barred. None of it is intended with malice, and although it can on occasion seem a little bit fraught, it is banter rather than venom. So, be warned that this is like taking a naked swim in a piranha tank and not recommended for the faint of heart.

Watched the latest Terminator-with Ahnold, Urmm tall gal from the Martian, Linda Hamilton, etc. It’s–OK, trots out all the usual expected cliches-but enough already. They don’t need to do anymore of these.

WatchING Fat City with Stacy Keach and Jeff Bridges. So far pretty okay. Never seen it before.

    • Just Pillow Talk says :

I caught the end of it, seemed pretty blah to me. Hey, terminators fighting terminators again, great. The whole truck sinking down to the bottom of that lake, horrible.

Enola Holmes I actually liked quite a bit. Watched it with my younger daughter, who also liked it, a lot. Didn’t even mind Supes as Sherlock, since he was a peripheral character. That Millie Brown was really good in this, we both liked when she “broke the fourth wall!” as my daughter would yell out. Maybe I will get her to check out the books and see if they are worth a read, since she is a huge reader.

    • Xiphos0311 says :

I watched EH also and while I am most definitely NOT the target audience i thought it was okayish.I however was getting very annoyed with the fourth wall breaking by the end of the movie.I could nail exactly when it was coming and almost exactly what she was going to say because they made it so easy to figure out. Gerault of Rivia was good as a jacked Sherlock. I was quite annoyed at how they portrayed poor Mycroft. I get they need an antagonist, one that had the power, to move EH around and put her in places the script needed her to be but in the books he wasn’t such a pratt.

      • tombando says :

Yeah I liked it better than you did Xi but the Mycroft as Mel Cooley stuff got old fast. 4th wall stuff I don’t mind(much), it can get gratuitous though.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

It wasn’t bad movie its just that I am very far from the target audience is all. I might have enjoyed it more if I watched it straight through instead of like 20 minute chunks over several days.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

Yes, they for sure made Mycroft a throwaway character.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

        yep they sure did,

  5. M. Blitz says :

So Xi, looks like we’ll be getting a season 2 on The Vow. Shocker. What a vile, crooked bunch.

Last week’s ep was very difficult to get through. I wanted to slap Mark into oblivion (viciously so when he chastized bonnie for joking about sleeping on the dog bed). Nippy looked coked the fuck out on the pier. And I badly want to know if anyone walked out of these sessions or pushed back on any of it. The mind boggles. This week’s ep was basically, oh after 8 eps of long shots of Nippy on the laptop, sarah playing with kids, our aunt beru looking pensive or Catherine in a car, P.S….Mexico! (Which, have you seen the texts between Keith and the 15 year old?? Jesus fucking christ, it is beyond.) And Mark sitting on the floor crying about the pleasure Keith took from all this at the end seemed very revealing of him. How focused he was on Keith’s “pleasure.” (And stop showing slo mo shots of volleyball and award ceremonies like I’m gonna be sad for what you lost Mark. Like, did these people just need shitty office jobs? We have all kinds of stupid assemblies and awards ceremonies, chances for forced fun, softball/volleyball leagues, idiotic training, etc)

HBO is teasing Keith’s side of the story and lots of “intimate” DOS stories in season 2. Escalating the sleaze, I suppose. Haven’t seen any of the Starz series that just started, but I hear it has more dirt on Mark and co.

    • tombando says :

I did see Birds of Prey-it was Weird. I liked Some of it, had no idea it was Ewan Macgregor as the baddie. Pretty ok the best part of it was Margot Tobbie as Harley Quinn.

    • Xiphos0311 says :

I see you already heard of other doc about NXIVN.

The last episode clarified something that has been floating around in my head the whole of the series and I think it will probably make me look really bad but here it is.

When Reniere’s attorneys were doing their normal PR spiel “we’ll prove Keith is innocent, we’ll fight this blah blah blah. Normal defense horse shit. However one lawyer said something like this, these woman entered into a consensual relationship. Up to a point I think I have to agree with this idea. Was there heavy persuasion yes, could it be construed as coercive probably however did Reniere show up at their houses with The Saltzman and Bronfman’s and whoever else in tow with chains to take these woman away? No they didn’t. They just convinced them to go along with the program, at first. And that’s what has been going on in the back of my head, they woman in DOS all joined voluntarily. Edmonson and others all said they had a choice and they all took the bad outcome.

      • M. Blitz says :

That’s funny. That was floating in my head the whole damn series but had quieted a bit by the end. I also felt it wasn’t a good look to bring up lol. I had been thinking early on about parallels with young dudes who join gangs. And, this is fucked up, but I even thought at one point, reminiscing, ‘girls can get prettty extreme’ (latered echoed in a voiceover by Mack!). So much of it could be construed as “consensual” and for the most part not strictly illegal (part of why i was fascinated that they included Mexico as a footnote when that is where the more clear cut criminal shit happened). On the other hand, we are talking a cult with all of the manipulation and psychological/social conditioning that entails. Those sessions that were basically conversion therapy to a misogynist worldview…ugh. To me, it preys on and validates fears about what men think of women “deep down”, what they REALLY think. Validating people’s deep-seated anxieties and self-loathing can be a very powerful thing. Especially if you are breaking down any possible defenses at the same time. And in a way it sort of plays off a quasi-misogynist assumption, that real harm involves physical duress, not emotional/psychological torture. Ironic, even, given stereotypes of men as violent and women as manipulative (and also emotionally “weak”). Keith used the stereotype against them at the same time he was inverting it. And by pushing back or crying foul, he could twist it like that proved his point.

On the other, other hand, I remain highly skeptical of anyone associated with the doc.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

I want to make sure that its clear I’m not victim shaming them its just that there is a bit of the. go along to get along attitude, in the whole thing.

The really sad thing is that the misogyny of Reniere is right out in the open he never hides it. Everybody just laughs it off as his alleged “genius” in “re framing” the discussion.
Assholes like Mark and Nippy on the other hand found permission in him for letting their latent misogyny shine through. Its all so sordid and cheap and so easily done away with if anybody wasn’t blinded by hero worship and the programing they all so willingly bought into because they will “change the world” it did all right, their own personal world, for the worst.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

the new NXIUM Documentary confirms that Mark Vincente is a MAJOR LEAGUE SCUMBAG.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

also Alison Mack gahhhhhhhhh…she ain’t all there.

      • M. Blitz says :

I didnt think you were victim-blaming (and hope you didn’t think I was! I had been hesitant to bring it up for that very reason.)

      • Xiphos0311 says :

No i didn’t think you were either but to be honest it is a legitimate thought.. On a superficial level they do have some culpability by just buying into without question. It is the classic i was just following orders scenario.

      • M. Blitz says :

What’s your opinion of the 120 year sentence? Numbers like that tend to make my eyes roll. Hope somebody’s checking on nicki clyne and the rest of the dancing peeps.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

Bit of an overkill that will probably get reduced somewhat on appeal I would guess, but who knows?

those idiots aren’t even being original they’re just copying the Manson family during that trial.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

Blitz Seduced Ep 3 is the deep dive into the nut case that is Alison Mack. And she is OUT there like really far out there. Holy shit she’s far around the bend.

  6. Xiphos0311 says :

Blitz there is a second NXIVN doc on Showtime called Seduced. It focuses more on the nuts and bolts of the cult and how they operated and dare I say I say it, seduced recruits.

The downside I think, for you, might be that it follows India Oxenberg and thus Catherine. Its interesting seeing ideas and incidents from The Vow from a different angle. I have watched the first episode. I’ve included here a write up from The AV Club to save you from having to wade through my incoherent ramblings.

    https://tv.avclub.com/in-the-nxivm-docuseries-showdown-seduced-is-the-clear-1845420016

    • M. Blitz says :

Oh I’m going to watch that one, prob in November. Catherine/India are still fascinating to me and I want to see info that isn’t filtered through Mark.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

Those two come off way different in the new Doc. I learned that, and I might have missed it in The Vow, that Catherine was the one that, at first, was really gung ho about ESP and India was only into so so even though India is the one that suggested they go in the first place. The NXIUM’s were going after Catherine hard for being a D list celeb. Nancy Saltzman really worked on her full court press. on Catherine and it was working however the red flags mounted and she said screw this and got out. The kid didn’t for a variety of reasons the other doc goes into. That was their biggest mistake, keeping their hooks in the kid. If they just let her go then all the shit never would’ve come out. They went up against a mamma bear with money that was willing to throw it all away to get her kid back.

  7. M. Blitz says :

You guys seen this yet? I’ve probably watched it 20 times already

  8. M. Blitz says :

The catch 22 clusterfuck of getting mental health care for an adult who refuses mental health care is making me lose my fucking mind. There are just no good or safe options available. If I lived in a different area, I could get a mental health professional to come to the house, but those services arent available here.

My mom came by today and literally got swarmed by a neighbor who was scared she had been dead inside the house for months. My dad and stepmom are so utterly pointless, i lost my shit and screamed FUCK YOUUUUU at him like a lunatic. And work keeps piling more and more projects and responsibilities on me.

    I need a break y’all!

    • M. Blitz says :

A neighbor called the cops and he’s at a hospital now.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

At the risk of saying more unpopular things, this is good for you, it gives you a bit of a break which you need.

      • M. Blitz says :

I felt calmer last night than i have in recent memory just thinking that for once, everybody was safe.

Then i woke up and received news he had ran out of the hospital last night and had to be chased down and restrained. Which is going to delay him being transferred to a hospital that actually has psych care. Where he is at there are only TWO beds. There was double that number of people called in just last night for involuntary evaluation. Super fucking frustrating.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

It has to be frustrating but at least you get a bit of a breather which is good.

      • M. Blitz says :

He is literally still in an exam room in the ER waiting to be admitted somewhere. Apparently the fact that he doesn’t demonstrate perfect obedience (in his unmedicated, hallucinatory state) is a mark against him in terms of getting transferred to a place that actually has a psych unit. The catch-22’s continue. And even if a place has a bed, they can reject him for not having the right insurance, or having the audacity to not be an adolescent. At this point, they are looking at places hours away cuz nowhere will take him so far.

  9. Xiphos0311 says :

RIP Sean Connery. The Rock was a towering achievement but so was wearing a pink diaper in Zardoz.

    • tombando says :

Love him as Mason. “Womack! YOU PEESH OF SHITT! I shouldt haf Guesht!!” He was great.

Currently marathoning yr 5 of Mannix[A Quinn Martin Production! TM] -there is an obligatory car going over a cliff scene in about every episode. Which explodes for no reason. This season 71-72 was the highest rated, and featured lotsa Orange carpeting, fun guest stars and baddies w huge ties. A good time.

First episode of 2nd yr Mandalorian was great. Do see.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

        best role of his carer.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

The Mandalorian wasn’t great. Todd Gains was fantastic and carried a rather mediocre episode on to the level of really good.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

I liked the episode too and the fact that it was more or less a stand alone episode.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

Episode 2, however, I did not particularly like. A little detour that had no point and really just wasted an episode that added what exactly? To show x-wings again?

  10. Just Pillow Talk says :

First time ever there’s a line to vote. For my small town, pretty crazy.

On the viewing front….watched a bunch of Abbott and Costello movies and Agents of Shield season 7.

  11. Tombando says :

Oh liked episode 2. Nothing great but the spider attack was fun.

Watching lotsa Streets of San Francisco and now Barnaby Jones. Quinn Martin Production overkill. It’s great.

  12. Just Pillow Talk says :

At least the Jets are getting more creative in how to lose games as they continue their relentless march to 0-16 mark. More than 50% there now…

  13. M. Blitz says :

Anybody seen The Dress Up Gang? I’d never heard of it, but it looks amusing as hell.

    • Xiphos0311 says :

      nope never heard of it.

Blitz have started watching Seduced yet? Apparently India and Vicente are beefing hard about it since she is an executive producer and threw him under the bus backed the bus up and drove over him again, Also, to a lesser extent, Edmondson also. Mack gets absolutely hammered in this thing unlike in the Vow There are some other issues I would like to talk about but I will wait until you see it.

      • Tombando says :

Okay Now marathoning Matt Houston. Shit. I haven’t been this since it was on. Equal parts Sagging PI ripoff, Hart to Hart w a bit of JR Ewing. Save Sagging is filthy rich and Flies the copter. Guest cast is typical Aaron Spelling Love boat guys. Col Klink or the Skipper get killed in the first scene, hijinks ensue. If you’re curious check it out, its really dumb but it’s Fascinating.

      • M. Blitz says :

About halfway through. This shit is soooo superior (and far better paced!) than The Vow. Knew Mark was leaving a lot out but DAMN. The delivery here is effectively sickening. Should be finished with it in a couple hours as it’s zipping right along.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

Let me know when you are done with it please Blitz there is something in the final episode, a the end, that is vexing me greatly and I would like to discuss it.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

I agree Seduced is the superior documentary because it actually goes into the how and not just the why,Vincente is 100% scumbag and used The Vow as a vehicle of redemption and India isn’t having any of that BS. Good on her. For the most part I think she is being pretty straight ahead and honest. there have been a couple of times where I think she shaded the truth a bit just to make her self look a little better but that is to be expected and it wasn’t anywhere close to what Vincente has done.

My biggest take away from Seduced is WTF was Renere going to use the Society Of Protectors for? It stank of burgeoning strike force/security operation/counterintelligence unit. It was his version of Scientology’s SeaOrg I would think. these ass clown stole A LOT of crap from Scientology like making the DOS woman sign more than life time contracts. It was all so unoriginal except for “business” aspect of ESP. That part was genius.

      • M. Blitz says :

All done. I came out of this really liking both India and Catherine. India I agree seemed straight forward. And this doc puts Catherine’s bemused expression in the Vow into a bit more context. She played Mark, he deserved it, and I’m glad they didn’t hold back on him.

What was vexing you in the last ep? My discomfort with the end is based around 2 things. First off, it seems odd to me to go on a crusade for new laws, when the laws that already exist resulted in successful prosecution. I haven’t looked into what they are trying to accomplish, or what form they want these new laws to take, but I’m skeptical.

It also kind of bums me out that they seem to be exclusively focused on the harm done to women, and that women need to be uniquely protected from cult exploitation. There needs to also be a focus on how damaging it is to men to undergo heavy misogynist indoctrination! To ignore that is to reify the exact kind of ideology Raniere was pushing.

On a other note, I think it’s a mistake to lift up this experience as a wonderful learning experience. Or to flatter oneself that it was their very intelligence that made them vulnerable to recruitment.

Also, was disturbed/intrigued by the lawyer’s comments re whether the jury would find that Keith believed he was doing these things for people’s own good, and that being exculpatory. Quite a can of wriggling worms right there.

I would love to see a doc exclusively devoted to SOP. Still not satisfied with the info we’ve gotten on that.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

Yes I agree that India and Catherine came off much better in Seduced because it put Catherine’s crusade and India’s mindset into the proper context and not filtered through the Vow’s efforts to exonerate the actions of others.

You mentioned what has me hacked off, namely the desire for more laws that are distinctly anti free speech and association. We have enough corporations, news organizations and elements of government that are doing their best to strip the last remaining vestiges of rights away from citizens. Making more laws in that direction, that your rightly pointed out are not needed the current ones work just fine, really scares me.I understand that liberty is fearful concept to so very many, you might have to be responsible for yourself and not have the government make everything “safe” is thing most don’t actually want. They want to inflict as much government on citizens as possible and strip away the last remaining rights enshrined in the greatest single document ever created by man.As long as the government these pimps are pushing are “their” preferred version of government that is.

Yeah SOP needs a deep dive. There was some sort of fishy shit happening there. Like I mentioned before they were the beginning of some sort of strike force/counter-inel sort of thing.

I think the focus on woman has to do with the sex angle, branding and the DOS element; its prurient and a lot more involving than exploring misogyny. I agree though that there should probably be more focus on what the happened to the men but in the current climate that won’t happen.

It is true that in most cases Cults do go after the brighter elements of society, however, they neglected to mention that they also go after the bright ones that have a sick need to “save the world” that mindset is so very evil and so very exploitable.

    Wassup, ninjas.

2020 has been rough. Managed to get laid off, get the Rona, then somehow get re-employed in a better job. I’ve been out of action due to the fact that I’ve had two fucking strokes and am in recovery.

I’m back at work again, so should be around more. Hope everyone else is keeping well and enjoying love in the time of coronavirus.

    • Tombando says :

Holy shit there Jarv that’s a tough run of luck for you. Glad you are better. 2020 is a black hole.

    • Just Pillow Talk says :

Damn, sorry to hear that. Hope the road to recovery continues for you since your family needs you. Take care of yourself.

    • M. Blitz says :

Jarv!!! Good grief, that is A LOT. Glad to hear you’re recovering. That is shocking news…! Just really glad you’re ok.

    • ThereWolf says :

Fuck’s sake, Jarvis! Pleased and relieved to hear you’re on the mend, mate. What came first – the Captain Trips or the strokes?

      • Jarv says :

Captain Trips. For a while they thought it caused the strokes.

      • ThereWolf says :

What turned them off the idea there might be a connection?

      • Jarv says :

It’s not off the table. They’re more convinced it’s something genetic at the moment. They’ve tried fucking everything though and in basically clean.

      • M. Blitz says :

I was wondering the same thing. Clotting and whatnot. How far apart were the 2 strokes?

      • Jarv says :

Same week. But about 5 months after Rona. The first I think I slept through. The second was more of a disaster.

      • M. Blitz says :

Holy shit, I didn’t even know that was possible. What a thing to sleep through! So you remember the second one? Sounds like they are exploring lots of possible causes and seriously trying to work out what was going on. VERY glad to hear that, cuz I would want answers. We’re still young dammit!

      • Jarv says :

Yup. Well, the start of it. I spent a long time blacked out.

      • Jarv says :

It honestly sucks, the worst thing about it is the constant pain in my right arm now. Which I’m told is for life. Yay. Also, my short term memory is fucked, really badly. Physically I was able to bounce back fast, but I still get really tired really quickly.

      • Jarv says :

        So, my stroke day.

I was on the choob reading twitter on my way in, and I dropped my phone. Which is weird. I was feeling a bit dizzy, but nothing too serious. I then bent down to pick it up and missed. This is now when I knew I was in a bit of trouble. I passed out, and woke up one stop early. Got off the train, realised, and got back on. Passed out again. Woke up, by a miracle, at the right station. Managed to get off the train and slumped in a bench on the platform. By this point everything had gone completely runny and my mind was spinning in a million different (and totally useless) directions. My left leg was also completely useless, and I’m told the side of my face had collapsed.

Anyhoo, I was rescued by a member of London underground staff who rang an ambulance and took me to the sick bay. I then blacked out again for a couple of hours.

I woke up, briefly, to help the two paramedics get me up the stairs- which was just as well as they were both female and tiny. I then blacked out again, and came too inside the fucking MRI machine. Not recommended.

Next time I woke up I was on a ward with seriously old dying people.

The NHS booted me out the next afternoon as I was mobile, sort of, and they didn’t have a clue what caused it.

      • M. Blitz says :

Oh and what was your Rona bout like? Were Mrs Jarv and Finn spared or was it a cavalcade of covid?

      • Jarv says :

They both got it first. Finn shrugged it off in 24 hours, Marina was about 2 days.

I had the cunt for three weeks. Highlights include, but are not limited to, throwing up blood, delirium (and proper delirium too, with full on hallucinations), a sore throat that made me want to cry, a raging headache, and 10 days worth of viral fatigue. I didn’t get the cough, but I’m told that’s fun.

It’s not going to kill you, but it’s a rotten flu.

      • ThereWolf says :

Not going to kill you? Flu? Have you been possessed by Donald Trump, Jarv!

      • M. Blitz says :

Waking up in the MRI….ohhhhh man

Was the tube deserted? The whole getting on and off trains and negotiating the correct station while *literally stroking out* (unassisted!) is blowing my mind.

  15. Just Pillow Talk says :

Tom, episode 3 of Mandalorian was much better. My daughter was informing me of Sackoff’s character and the tie in into those cartoons, Rebels and Clone Wars. 4 Mandalorians vs a whole squadron of stormtroopers is apparently very one sided.

  16. Just Pillow Talk says :

On the book front, almost done with Uprooted, by Naomi Novik of the Temeraire books. It’s grown on me, wizards and what not….started slow but has found its footing. I like the evil, the woods, in the book and the menace it represents to the surrounding areas.

  17. Jarv says :

Seeing as we seem to be talking about books. I struggle to read now, as I can’t remember what I’ve read and find myself reading the same bit over and over again, but…

The latest Rivers of London book is fucking dire. They’ve dealt with the big bad from the previous arc, and this new one isn’t up to much at all. I think he’s painted himself into a corner, by pinning everything in the narrative on the previous big bad- whereas they should’ve been more monster of the week stuff.

As such, it’s just kind of boring- which is something this series has never been and I’m severely disappointed by it

    • Tombando says :

Holy crap Jarv. All of that’s some scary shit. Here’s hoping you can be on the mend and then some. Awful.

    • M. Blitz says :

I’ll be posting my October viewing soon, at least as soon as I overcome my natural tendency towards sloth. I’d bet you’ve seen ’em all. I think I got up to around 46 this year.

  18. Jarv says :

I’m definitely doing some new content soon. Definitely. I know I said that in Jan, but hey.

    • Xiphos0311 says :

I said the same thing and so far all I have is bupkis to show for it ,only 2 barely started POS and a partially completed savaging of GoT, Battle of Winterfell from a historical combat angle and everything they got so, so very wrong. Maybe I’ll finish it next week when I have free time.

  19. Jarv says :

PS. Moonwolves is now 15 years old. Fuck me do I feel old.

This is a quite remarkable achievement, as most of these film blogs etc tend to die in about two years.

    • Tombando says :

Currently watching Yr 4 of Barnaby Jones. Guest stars include Dabney Colman, Lee Purcell, Stephen Collins, Donna Mills etc. Its an agreeable time killer, drags at times. Typical Quinn Martin Productions(TM] stuff. Some of the ‘action scenes’ make you guffaw. But that’s expected too.

  20. Xiphos0311 says :

Well it has come and gone, the final episode of Supernatural has aired. Its been 15 years in the making. What a fucked up time its been. I have not watched the episode yet i saved the final three episodes to binge as one long movie tonight. I hope the boys make it through, and to quote Kansas song Carry On, find peace when they are done. Thanks Supernatural you have been a mainstay and a constant in my life and I truly appreciate everything you did.

    • Just Pillow Talk says :

I will get to the entire last season at some point, probably once it’s on Netflix. My guess is it’s a bittersweet ending as I fear Dean doesn’t make it. He always thought he would go “in the line of duty”…

      • Xiphos0311 says :

I agree about the ending probably being bittersweet, unlike some other shows out there I could mention, SN has the balls to actually do that.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

SN stuck the landing. Good bye boys and thanks once again.

      • M. Blitz says :

Watched the last few eps this morning. So happy, so sad, still room for some laughs. They did a good job.

Yeah Blitz they did a great job. It ended in the way it HAD to end I think. I thought that coda they included was a very generous moment for the fans, the cast, and the staff. It was such a good show too bad the general ass hats in the world failed to recognize that fact.

    • Jarv says :

I’m tempted to pick it up again, because it badly lost me in the Dean wandering around in the wood year. Maybe just for the last season.

The natural end of that was defeating Lucifer, because how do you top beating the Devil? Not to mention killing Bobby left a big hole in the cast.

Having said that, I have to finish Lucifer too.

I’m enjoying the Mandalorian this series though.

      • M. Blitz says :

You might as well. Even when it gets boring or dumb there’s still plenty to enjoy.

      • M. Blitz says :

And you know you miss this face lololol. Prettier than most gals!

      • Xiphos0311 says :

The last season was solid. They took on Chuck, so they took on god. They stuck the landing and that’s not just me fan boying out.

I’ve punched out of The Mandalorian. Its turned into another Lucas film POS. I call it either The Fillalorian or the CallBackalorian because that’s all it is.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

        So, so pretty. Siiiiiiiigh…

      • M. Blitz says :

Plus there’s Crowley, and Rowena, and lots of good Lucifer stuff post-apocalypse.

I’m unclear as to when Jarv stopped watching. Circa Benny? Or later….?

Spoilers for finale, so stop reading if you’re unspoiled…………….. I am amazed at how dark the finale was….sure, they defeated Chuck, but still ended up damn close to Chuck’s promised Chuck-less ending. For it to happen so fast….just, damn. But still, they got wjat they wanted, nobody interfering and hijacking their story. Did you get emotional Xi? I was muttering skeptically to myself when the rebar hit, and hung on during the speech. It wasn’t until Dean hopped in the car and i realized Sammy would be there before his drive was over that i was overwhelmed despite myself. With tears briefly converting to cackle at the sight of old man Sam. They got me.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

I’m a combat MARINE of course I didn’t cry! However the room I was watching it in was dusty and I’m allergic to dust so I teared up from that.

      • M. Blitz says :

I figured your allergies would get ya, just curious at what point they kicked in lol

My brother’s back home, walked in the room and watched approx 2 mins before pointing at Dean and going, that dude’s my favorite character. Then it cut to Sam and he grimaced and walked back out.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

My “allergies” kicked in about the time Dean got hung up and continued off and on through the very nice thing the show did for the fans, cast and crew at the end.

        You’re bro is perceptive.

      • M. Blitz says :

When dean said don’t leave! That was the first instance of starting to choke up. But Sam bugs. Anytime the show does the whole–no Sammy, you are the strong one!-thing, hahahh Sam wishes. Still, I do love the prissy indignation of Sam even if he drives me up the wall. Gotta love Sam because I love Dean and Dean loves Sam.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

Moose is a D bag. Its the Dean show all the way. Ackles seems like a genuinely good dude somebody you can hang with, shoot the shit, watch a game shoot some pool whatever. Padilecki seems like he has a stick up his ass and would want to talk about Bernie Sanders or something equally as dumb.

      • M. Blitz says :

Crowley calling him Moose was perfection and never failed to elicit a cackle. So perfect. (God I miss Crowley, truly one of my faves)

Have you heard about Jared’s psychotic use of social media to drunkenly sic his fans on random bartenders and waiters and whatnot? That dude is a MESS. Yikes. Not cool.

Sam on the show just seems like that one friend that nobody likes, but nobody boots out either. Fills some kind of negative but perhaps necessary social role. Crowley had his number for sure. And I thoroughly enjoyed Lucifer’s endless toying with Sam.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

The show had a great run of guest and guest stars. Truly spectacular.

Yeah i saw when he did that. Its the move of a self important jerk off. He probably told the bartenders and staff, do you know who I am? obnoxious prick.

      • M. Blitz says :

That was def the impression i got from the bartender incident, that she wasn’t kissing his ass and hence was the “meanest” person of allll time. Good grief. He posted her goddamn picture! Dude needs to just drink at home with the devices turned off. He’s a menace to regular people with that bullshit.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

But if he stayed home nobody would kiss his ass. Can’t have that.

  21. M. Blitz says :

Playing hooky from work this afternoon to go see MANK, playing in one theater, one state over. Fuckin stoked!

  22. Just Pillow Talk says :

It appears the Expanse will end after a 6th season, which has not filmed of course since the 5th airs next month. I thought there was material for like 8 seasons, so if that’s the case, hopefully they can fit what they can into the last season to wrap it up to some sort of satisfying conclusion.

  23. M. Blitz says :

Hope everybody had/has/is having a good Thanksgiving!

  25. tombando says :

Wow Blitz that’s a lotta movies to watch! Hope you enjoyed all. I’ve been doing the yearly David Lean/Carol Reed marathon, Oliver Twist/Odd Man Out/the Third Man/Great Expectations etc. Gunga Din and the Four Feathers and You Can’t Take it With You and Devil and Dan Webster. I think that’s them. All really hold up well.

  26. Tombando says :

Lemme see having just got Netflix again:

The Irishman. Scorsese DeNiro Pesci Pacino go to the Goodfellas well again. And despite the CGI deaging fx you can really tell a couple times they’re really old. Despite that it’s good. Goes on a bit long and Pacino as Hoffa didn’t Quite sell it. Too used to Jaack in the part I guess? Anyways worth seeing, funny to see David Ferry show up, Pacino played him in JFK. I liked it.

Spenser for Hire Marky Mark etc. Decent cast, Director Peter Berg is another Bruckheimer Bay type and it shows. Overkill shootouts etc at times but I liked it, Winston Duke was fun as Hawk. Wahlberg okay as Wahlberg you know. Donno if they bother with a series or not.

Croods: okay by the numbers cgi cavemen on the run romp, the Lilo and Stitch guys directed? Nick Cage and Deadpool did voices. Same formula as Ice Age. It’s a decent time passer, fun

  27. Just Pillow Talk says :

The Expanse is back! Watched the first 2 episodes, damn I really like this show. Splitting up the crew is going to be interesting. Can’t wait to see how they get brought back together.

    Books….

Ragtime – look at early 19th century goings on in America. It was merely okay, 2nd half of book better, wasn’t a fan of the writing style.

Some Holmes short stories, always entertaining.

1,000 lives of Ardor Benn….entertaining enough read, first of the trilogy. A different world to be sure, interesting take on how the use of dragons in a society. Starting book two.

  28. Just Pillow Talk says :

Just finished season 2 of the Mandalorian. Overall, I have to say I really liked it. For me, if felt like Star Wars and can be put alongside the original trilogy and distanced itself from the garbage of the prequels and sequels. SPOILERS…….I thought it was really cool to have Luke show up and slice through those special troopers like butter. Only way for baby Yoda to part ways.

    • Tombando says :

Agreed good series. Watching True Lies and Tombstone on Netflix currently. We got 3 feet of snow from the last storm.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

        I’m your huckleberry.
        Never gets old.

Decided I am going to start rewatching seasons 1-4 of the Expanse.

      • M. Blitz says :

I’m gonna rewatch the expanse too, while i wait for new episodes to accumulate

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

First 3 seasons down, starting number 4.

I have to say, seasons 2 and 3.1 are really excellent. Season 3.2 does not match the first half of the season, and I am calling them that because tonally they are different and there’s a clear break in the story. Part of that really has to do with Terry Chen not in the 2nd half of season 3 with his story complete as I really liked his interaction with the crew.

Rewatching the series just reminded me how damn excellent this series is.

  29. M. Blitz says :

Merry Xmas everybody. We’ve got flurries so i’m stoked. From 60 degrees to snow in less than 24 hours. Hope everybody’s happy and warm.

  30. Xiphos0311 says :

And a happy Festivus to the rest of us!

Now, to the airing of the grievances….

    Just kidding Merry Christmas everybody.

  31. ThereWolf says :

    Merry Winter Solstice everybody!

Hope you’re all having a great time!

  32. tombando says :

Happy belated Xmas/Boxing Day stuffs to all. Watched Soul–pretty good Pixar, reminded me of Inside Out more than the rest of theirs’, held up well after 2 viewings. Pretty funny at times.

Watched Marky Mark’s Patriot Day-Boston Marathon Bombings Cop movie, decent, and his Spencer for Hire try–not bad, nothing special.

Most of the 33 inches of snow we got a couple weeks ago has gone, about half a footish in places the rest melted off. I donno.

  33. Xiphos0311 says :

Happy New Year everybody, even Jarv!

  34. tombando says :

Doing the Twilight Zone-a-thon as usual, Starting second year. Always good to see these again. A few don’t hold up so well but the hit and miss ratio the first 3 years is pretty good.

    Happy Noo Years Alls.

  35. ThereWolf says :

A very happy and hopeful New Year everyone!

  36. M. Blitz says :

Started watching Halt and Catch Fire. “Started watching” = devoured half the series in the last 2 days

    • Xiphos0311 says :

HaCF is one of the top 5 best shows from the last decade. Yeah it started off a bit slow but once it found its groove it was fantastic. I thought the best choice they made was pivoting away a little from Cameron, Joe and Gordon and focusing more on Donna, she carried the show IMO. Don’t get me wrong they all did great work but she was just a little more? i guess. if that makes any sense?

      • Xiphos0311 says :

I forgot to mention that, Bosworth getting more run on the show, was a great choice.

      • M. Blitz says :

Finished it today and loved everything about it. One of the saddest shows I think I’ve ever seen.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

Sad how? i mean some characters did have a permanent issue but most;y I thought it was a rather hopeful ending with Donna and Cameron maybe coming up with point of sale or maybe wireless tech, i think? Joe was a dink and had a dink ending.

      • M. Blitz says :

In the sense that they were so into moving everything into “the future.” But now there isnt any sense of “the future”, just a sense thay everything has been subsumed into an empty simulacra. Deeply depressing.

Joe said something about not being woried about where it would end up, because the feeling of making something was what mattered. Definitely some honesty in that, and some tragedy.

Or when Haley talks about being your “true self” online. A notion that has been upended in a really fucked up way with social media.

I dont know. Watching them go through all this in a world that would soon no longer exist…deeply, deeply depressing to me.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

Very few people are their true selves on or off line, they are just people trying to get through the day and royally fucking that up so they lie to themselves and try to present their idealized self in some way. or not I don’t know.

      • M. Blitz says :

It’s really the very notion of a “true self”…..it’s allll fucked up

  37. Just Pillow Talk says :

So I got the bluray set of Abbott and Costello and have watched the following….

Mummy, Jekyll and Hyde, Hit the Ice, Who Done It?, Hold that Ghost. I would say that the Mummy is the only one that disappoints, the rest are what you would expect from their movies and have some laughs.

Only have a couple more episodes to get through in season 4 of The Expanse before tackling the newest season. The fourth is definitely the weakest, this rewatch just reinforces that. It’s really a treading water type season in many regards.

  38. M. Blitz says :

    WHAT THE FUCK

The news is crazier by the minute

    • Just Pillow Talk says :

It is fucking appalling, these pieces of shit. How this was not snuffed out sooner by law enforcement is ridiculous.

      Insurrection, pure and simple.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

And I wanted to post about the Expanse….

        God damn.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

Never was a fan, but George W,’s statement summed it up.

      • ThereWolf says :

What the fuck is going on over there, guys? I’m watching it but I can’t quite believe it…

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

It’s what happens when you elect the most corrupt, anti-American president in the dumbest country who will eat up any lie spewed on the internet enabled by people who government who have no balls.

      • ThereWolf says :

Come on, Pillows, stop being so diplomatic; get off the fence and tell us what you really think!

      • ThereWolf says :

Think I saw Xiphos in that Capitol footage – tall bloke, painted face, Viking horns…

      • M. Blitz says :

That wasn’t Xi, it was Jamiroquai. Easy mistake to make, I’m sure…

      • ThereWolf says :

Jamiroquai… that’s uncanny. Didn’t he sing ‘Give In To Hate’ (or was it ‘Don’t’)?

But seriously… where were all the police? That’s the thing I keep coming back to. The fuckin place was wide open!

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

It was all white people “protesting”, so no need for a significant presence.

      • M. Blitz says :

        Future’s
        Made of
        Virtual insanityyy

But yeah, they were there. In decisively small numbers….some fighting, some posing for selfies, some standing in a stupor, some moving security barriers aside…

I’d amend pillow’s statement to white and right wing. White people protested the iraq war in droves, and close to a thousand were rounded up and arrested throughout DC before the protests even kicked off.

The difference in response between the summer and this, is…. pretty fucking obvious. But it also freaks me out to see people in a bloodlust frenzy of WANTING the cops to be shooting these people or indiscriminately kicking the shit out of anyone.

There’s a lot of crossover between law enforcement and anti-gov right wing groups. I’d like to see a lot more info and analysis as it pertains to that, and how to go about counteracting that trend in a way that doesn’t invite further trampling of civil liberties and increased surveillance. The quality of analysis and reporting on all this is pretty terrifying in and of itself.

      • M. Blitz says :

I still cant believe they built a fucking gallows…i mean, i believe it, but what the fuuuuck.

Literally sitting here flipping back and forth between siege vids and armie hammer cannibal kink screenshots. Too much crazy.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

They are, after all, terrorists. They should be treated as such.

    • ThereWolf says :

I can’t believe the Pentagon was reticent to send the National Guard because they were concerned how it would look on television…

      Can’t be right, can it?

I mean, guess what else isn’t a good look on television; somebody getting shot in the throat.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

It’s okay, My Pillow guy has it all under control, key advisor to Trump, martial law and whatnot.

        Dude is completely crazy.

      • ThereWolf says :

Just My Pillow Talk… it’s definitely your new username, that!

Didn’t know that mad bastard was still around. Thought he’d disappeared in a puff of eider feathers months ago…

I see the new line from Republicans is ‘the riot was pre-planned so nothing to do with Trump at all…’

        Fuck’s sake…

He’s their ‘Commander’. They prepare and they ‘go’ on his word. He did tell them to ‘stand by’ as I recall. There was probably a trigger word/ phrase in his speech that gave them the green light (unless he’d already done it on Twatter). I’m sure the FBI will be all over it…

  39. Just Pillow Talk says :

Awright, switching gears from the madness out there….

Vikings – into season 2, liking it. Prefer The Last Kingdom, but this one isn’t bad.

Halt and Catch Fire – through episode 5 of season 1, decent so far.

WandaVision – watched first 2 episodes, meh.

Secret of Sulphur Springs – on Disney, first episode aired, actually an okay first one. Definitely a show that me and my youngest can watch.

Finished Ardor Benn trilogy, now started George W’s Decision Points book.

    • Tombando says :

Watching the first year of Alfred Hitchcock, seen some of these before but its good.

Marathoning best of Carson on Prime. Lotsa Buddy Hackett Joan Rivers etc. The eps from 74 mention how the Exorcist and the Sting, still playing in theatres May. Half a year after their release. Definitely not the way it works now. Carson was really good.

I liked Queens Gambit. Finally saw all of Bonny and Clyde w Beatty etc. Its good, dated, Faye as Bonnie is miscast. She’s too old [25 ok] and obviously upper class to pull off the white trash 18 yr old gooberette for me. She’s fine just…you know.

      Riots etc. Total shitfest

    • M. Blitz says :

How far into Halt and Catch Fire are you now? Low key obsessed and already watched it again.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

Just through the first 6 episodes…been obsessed with getting through Vikings, almost halfway through season 4.

Also finished George W’s book and now about halfway through Obama’s.

Think I may be able to catch the latest episode of The Expanse tonight.

      • M. Blitz says :

It only gets better from there. Def stick with it. You’ll be gobsmacked by the end.

Are we approaching the end of this season’s expanse eps? Will be time to watch soon.

Lemme know how Decision Points was. My mind recoils at the thought of reading any book by anybody who’s been president in my lifetime, but curious still.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

Yes, one more episode left of The Expanse. Season feels like it needs more episodes. It’s an interesting season in terms of pace. I feel it’s come down too much from the…mayhem…of some of the episodes earlier on. Really doesn’t feel like this season will have an ending.

I think Decision Points is worth a read. After all, it’s been 12 years since he’s been in office. There’s some background prior to him being President that’s interesting. Sure, he, in my opinion, glosses over some of the events, simplifies his thought process, decisions, and thinks highly of some of the wrong people. But…he also does call out some of his mistakes (to a degree, sure no different to other presidents), and does delve into some others like stem cells where he does a better job detailing out how he came to his decision.

  40. M. Blitz says :

Where is Xi? Have you been following the GME shenanigans? Fucking hilarious.

    • M. Blitz says :

Binging on GME. All i’ve watched this week. All day, after hours, pre-market. Binging on the order flow. With occasional breaks to watch hedge funds throw tantrums.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

“In the interest of mitigating risk for our company and clients, we have put in place several restrictions on some transactions in $GME, $AMC and other securities,” a spokeswoman for TD Ameritrade told MarketWatch, referring to the ticker symbols of the companies. “We made these decisions out of an abundance of caution amid unprecedented market conditions and other factors.”

      • M. Blitz says :

SO FUCKED UP. We all know the shit is rigged, but jesus christ.

        It hit 500$ pre-market.
No clue how I am gonna get any work done today.

      • M. Blitz says :

Robinhood won’t allow further purchase of SHARES, for the investor’s “protection.” Utterly absurd.

    • M. Blitz says :

Really gotta get a proper broker. Though unsure what that would be at this point, as it appears they are all limiting purchases to rich folk at the moment.

I was already annoyed when they cut off support for closed end funds earlier this month. I use NZF as a savings account and cant get more hissssssss.

All these assholes accusing reddit(!) of market manipulation as they pontificate and howl live on television. Oh the irony.

      • Tombando says :

Watching Cobra kai first year 7 or so eps in. Pretty good. I am liking what they have done

      • M. Blitz says :

Cobra Kai is very enjoyable. The fight choreography cracks me up.

      • Tombando says :

I really like the episode that brings back Zabka’s gang, including the guy who Was dying of cancer and died as a character in the show. Pretty good. And they brought back the mom too.

    • Xiphos0311 says :

GME was great for my portfolio and i didn’t buy one share. thanks dumb asses at both reddit and wall street.

  41. Just Pillow Talk says :

Finished the new season of The Expanse.

The flow of the season was a bit off for me. Kind of where they went, their journey, not sure it entirely paid off. And this season, more than any other, didn’t have a resolution and seemed like the middle of a trilogy. I will watch it again at some point to see if I feel the same way.

Started watching Travelers, which I like. Interesting take on time travel.

    • Just Pillow Talk says :

Been still thinking about the Expanse…I think it’s a bit of how long some of their characters stayed in their spot that bothered me. Yeah, it was executed well, just wish they moved it along a bit more quickly. The last episode was riveting though.

      • Tombando says :

Cobra kai was great. Saw the rest. Really liked the Okinawa call back and seeing Alli Shue ! This is how to do one of these reboots or long afterwards sequels. Check it out.

      • M. Blitz says :

I’ve been watching Melrose Place, with her bro, Billy 😂 This show is so much more of a camp riot than I remembered. I didnt stick with it long enough in the 90s I guess.

After you said how much you enjoyed seeing Zabka’s ol crew, i was thinking well he is in for a treat, cuz they are bringing back everrrybody! The guy with cancer made me sad…he was really memorable.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

we use to get together when i was in the Army, and later on at University, and watch Melrose Place. it was a gloriously goofy show.

      • M. Blitz says :

Kimberly is in her full splendor in the storyline I’m on. Menacing Michael and Amanda in the hot tub with a standing lamp she wielded like a regal staff…literally blowing up melrose place and inadvertently blinding allison who is wandering around in black out lennon glasses now 😂 it’s fantastic

    • M. Blitz says :

I’m going to watch it this weekend now that all the eps have accumulated.

      Did you watch Dark?

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

No, haven’t yet. Still working through Vikings, a bit of Travelers, and will get back to Halt.

On another note, watched Knives out, which while a tad long, was okay.

      • M. Blitz says :

I just watched Knives Out last week. I liked it, but not as much as I’d expected/hoped to…May have absorbed a bit too much of the critical praise. Perfectly enjoyable nonetheless.

    • Xiphos0311 says :

Travelers use of time travel was smart. The one episode they did with the parachutist was brilliant.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

I just like the way they consider the impact of suddenly taking over someone else’s life, how they are torn between who they are, or have been, finding themselves caught in someone’s life after so much has transpired, their interactions with other travelers outside their immediate group. Good stuff.

  42. Just Pillow Talk says :

    I hate Brady.

52 fucking years. Dude is almost as old as the last, and only time, the Jets have won the superbowl. Yeah, I’m rounding up, but whatever.

    • Just Pillow Talk says :

Starting watching the Tick since the superbowl was shit.

    • M. Blitz says :

I was informed it was Superbowl Sunday and upon hearing that Brady was involved pretty much knew I wouldnt be watching.

Why does he refuse to disappear? I was so happy when it seemed like he was retiring but noooooooo.

I did end up turning it on (and immediately wandering off) but my bro turned it all the way off and that was that. Something about the cable being “hacked.”

  43. Just Pillow Talk says :

Figure I would start yet another series, The Man in the High Castle. Interesting premise as a what-if from WWII. Only 2 episodes in.

    • Xiphos0311 says :

MitHC was a noble failure in my book it, for me, just sort of ended at season 2 even though it went on for 4 seasons I think.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

        Yeah, it’s 4 seasons.

I will give it a shot, just may take me a bit since I’m in the middle of a bunch right now.

It’ll be The Tick tonight as my oldest daughter liked the first few episodes we watched.

Well the Muppet Show [76-81] is Finally on Disney plus and binging same. Up to Steve Martin yr 2. Am sure have seen all but its been 15 years or more since I have seen show. 2 hosts I didn’t know: Bill Forsythe (?) English standup-TV host and Kay Ballard (kinda Jo Ann Worley) . I remembered her a little. Change from the 1st season to 2nd is notable. Pretty good.

Oh almost done the Crown. I like it- despite generally avoiding Anything Royals. Helena Bonham Carter and Dr Who there are fun. I like the 2 Liz 2s as well.

Finished The Travelers, which I highly recommend. Overall a really good show, interesting dynamics between the time travel team, and a satisfying “ending”. It is time travel after all, so that “ending”…

Also finished The Tick, which I liked the goofiness of it. I do wish they had another season, but alas…

    • Tombando says :

Watching lotsa music bios on Prime and Netflix. Johnny Cash and Nixon, the Dirt w Motley Crue, the Clive Davis one, etc. Pretty good. Seige of Jadotville-another Alamo but in Zaire 1961 UN Irish guys vs French hired Mercs. It’s okay. Plus more Muppets and the usual stuffs I wallow in.

    Let’s see, what have I watched…

Vikings – finished all 6 seasons. SPOILER….for those that care, once Ragnar died, it lost its steam. That said, Bjorn’s death was by far the best one. Problem was a lot of those later characters, didn’t care one shit about them.

The Man in the High Castle – finished it, and I quite liked it. Yep, there was some characters/stories that they could hav ed eliminated or put more focus on, and the best character was….shortchanged, but I really enjoyed it. It could have been a bit broader in scope, meaning showing a bit more of the repercussions of such a world. And I think introducing the BCR earlier would have been better as well instead of the last season.

Books…finished Obama’s book, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and the first two Dragoneer books from E.E. Knight, which are decent.

Let’s see: watched Taxi Driver, Out of Africa,Bang the Drum Slowly, Sideways and Coming to America 2. Pretty good all of them, America 2 kinda sitcommy

      • Tombando says :

Most I had caught parts of on tv but never all the way through. I liked Taxi Driver but don’t see the hype for it.

    How’s everybody doing?

    • Xiphos0311 says :

I’m alright Blitz, how are you?

      • M. Blitz says :

Watching lots of Three’s Company and Arrested Development. Trying to grow some vegetables and ignore the world before constant exposure to stupidity turns me into a bitter asshole lol

      • Xiphos0311 says :

        The Regal Beagle!

If you find out how not to be a bitter asshole let me know. I could use a reset.

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

I have finished The Boys, which did have its absurd moments that made me laugh. Begun to watch The Magicians, which seems average. Halfway through watching Space Sweepers Korean flick, which I like. Oh, finished Lock & Key, which was okay.

Got my 2nd vaccine shot over the weekend, and been trying to cook a couple meals a week now. Some of the stuff has actually come out pretty good, including chicken bacon alfredo potato casserole, fish tacos and toasted mushroom sourdough.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

I really liked the Magi ans. It does, however, take a couple of seasons to round into form. After that it is highly entertaining. Can’t stand Quintin but Margo and Elliot are excellent. Kady becomes a great character in the ladder seasons.

      • Tombando says :

Starting True Detectives yr 1 never seen them before. So far so good.

Binged last 6 years of Big bang theory-was pretty good, definitely on too long.

Brave and the Bold was good fun.

The Flight Attendant was ok. Few contrivances didn’t work. Cuoco was game.

Lawman yr 2 w John Russell I liked.

Sugarfoot yr 2 w Will Hutchins not bad

Scoob and Tom and Jerry kinda the same thing. Noisy but ok time passers.

      • Tombando says :

True Detective 1 was pretty good if confused in all the time hopping. I liked it.

True Detective 2 Sucks. Wow what a confusing badly written Thing. 4 shows in I think it’s all I can take. Geez HBO.

      • Tombando says :

Now trying Mare of Easttown -Kate Winslet in a Cagney and Lacey sorta thing in the Philly area. There’s killings. She’s a once famous HS hoop star (yeah) stuck in the same town for life wearing a badge, a broken marriage and who knows everyone. So far it’s ok does suffer from Small Universe Syndrome where everyone has the same circle of friends and never left town after hs. Kate’s ok in the role she tries hard. It’s on hbomax. I will keep watching.

      • M. Blitz says :

Post some recipes Pillow. I’ve been cooking lately too. Mostly chicken. In fact i’m typing this with a single thumb after grabbing the handle of a pan i’d just minutes before taken out of a 400 degree oven. lol havent done that in a while!

Really enjoyed the new Godzilla vs Kong. Wish I hadnt waited until the last minute to watch it on hbomax.

  48. Just Pillow Talk says :

    Pork bahn mi sandwiches…

Chicken bacon alfredo potato casserole…with tater tots. Garlic alfredo sauce the key. Rao’s, really good.

Fish tacos, corn tortillas a must.

Mushroom toasted sourdough, throw sourdough in oven to be broiled, so good…with an egg on top.

All from better homes and gardens cookbook.

    • M. Blitz says :

Rao’s is so good! Didn’t know they made a garlic alfredo, will def check that out

      • Just Pillow Talk says :

        It’s delicious.

Just made Pork cassoulet, substituted the smoked turkey sausage with smoked apple chicken sausage. Came out good, hearty meal.

  49. M. Blitz says :

  50. Continentalop says :

    Hola, amigos.

    • Xiphos0311 says :

look who pitched up on these rocky shores. how are you Conti?

      • Continentalop says :

        Alive.

Doing good actually. Hate to say it but the last year was pretty good for me, pandemic or not. Been working a lot.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

I don’t hate to say it, last year was one of the most financially rewarding of my life. However this year with the massive rise in wood and steel prices, not so much. thank you fed printing press and fiat currency.

      • Continentalop says :

        How have you been Xi?

      • Xiphos0311 says :

        I’m pretty OK.

      • Continentalop says :

The fed printing press has been good to me so not going to complain.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

we’ll revisit that when the hyper-inflation hits.

      • Continentalop says :

I’m not that worried about hyper-inflation. Some inflation yes, but not really hyper-inflation. So far it has been pretty transitory as a lot of experts predict.

Doesn’t mean I think everything is going to be just fine & dandy. I’m expecting us to klusterfuck this pretty soon.

      • Xiphos0311 says :

        yep venezula this bitch.
